Meet the team: A Q&A with business administrator Samuel

By HarperLees

In this month’s Q&A, we hope you’ll enjoy getting to know Samuel, our business administrator.

Read on to learn more about Samuel’s background, how he helps our team to support our clients, and some of the things he enjoys doing outside of work.

1. What is your role at HarperLees and how do you help your clients?

I am the business administrator for the firm. I mainly deal with the firm’s finances. I also work on a variety of projects with the directors including compliance work. I help clients by organising meetings on behalf of the planners, sending out important information, and helping with any queries they may have when they call in.

2. What did you do before working at HarperLees?

Before working here, I was a recruitment consultant. Before that, I had various part-time jobs while studying towards my A-Levels and degree including hospitality and phone sales.

3. What is your favourite part of your role at HarperLees?

No two days are the same in my role. While there are tasks that I repeat frequently, there is always something new for me to do so it keeps things fresh.

4. What do you believe sets HarperLees apart from other financial planning firms?

I believe that every person at the firm cares strongly about what they do, which comes through in the quality of their work and going the extra mile for clients.

5. What is a common misconception you hear from clients about financial planning?

That the focus is solely on return on investment. While this is an important part of financial planning, the wider lifestyle planning is vital to ensuring clients have the best possible future ahead of them and allowing them to live their lives to the fullest.

6. What are your favourite hobbies or pastimes when you’re not at work?

I have a passion for cooking, not only for myself but for my loved ones as well, so trying new recipes and mastering techniques is something I do regularly.

Music is another passion of mine. I regularly attend gigs and am always on the look-out for a new vinyl to buy!

I also love American football; I think it’s a great sport that combines the strength and brutality of rugby with the tactics and intelligence of chess.

Of course, any time not spent on these is spent with my family.

7. What would your dream meal be?

This is a tough question as there are so many good choices, but one of the best meals I ever had was in a small restaurant in Rome which was known to have the best carbonara in the world. I would go back there in a heartbeat.

8. What’s a goal that you’re working towards at the moment, personally or professionally?

Professionally, I am studying toward my first exam with the Chartered Insurance Institute. If all goes well, I will look to complete more exams over time.

Personally, I am saving with the goal of buying a house with my girlfriend.

Please note

The value of your investments (and any income from them) can go down as well as up and you may not get back the full amount you invested. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Investments should be considered over the longer term and should fit in with your overall attitude to risk and financial circumstances.
